Words from The designer
The Cover Side Chair is born from a desire to bring modern perspectives to the archetypal wooden chair. I wanted to give the design a crisp and contemporary expression through its thin plywood material, paired with the solid and grounded sentiment of its frame and base in solid wood. With the details of its curved backrest that folds gently around the back legs and its warm materiality, the stackable Cover Side Chair translates the ideas of Scandinavian craftsmanship into a modern design language.
Scandinavian Craftmanship
I was born and raised in Denmark; a country where the values of craftsmanship—the notion of doing things properly to a high standard—are an inherent part of daily life. I find that Scandinavian craftsmanship is shaped by its emphasis on quality above everything else, birthed from a desire to simplify and refine one’s work for it to have a democratic appeal; making it relevant for the many rather than the few.
Contrasting Comfort
Chiseling out a new iteration for the Cover family, Cover Bar Stool, designer Thomas Bentzen sought to create a seat of contrasts; grounded and robust while remaining elegant and light.
An Inviting Seat
By combining the ideals of Scandinavian craftsmanship with a modern design language, the Cover Lounge Chair has a simple yet refined expression. Join us for a visit to Thomas Bentzen’s studio to learn more about how he translated an existing design into a lounge chair.
