Summary

Designed by Julien Renault, Layout Armchair 244 offers a flexible and innovative design shaped by a commitment to comfort, functionality, and circularity. Characterised by the opening in the backrest, this defining feature provides greater comfort while giving its appearance a sense of lightness and transparency. Featuring an upholstered seat and back for a warm, inviting expression and a five-legged castor base with a height-adjustable gas lift that adds functionality and flexibility, all chair components can be fully disassembled to extend its lifespan and enable refurbishment for long-term use. The shell is crafted from a minimum of 96% post-consumer recycled plastic, with the aluminium base in different finishes. The upholstered seat and back are available in a variety of fabrics and olive-leaf tanned leather options, making Layout a versatile and durable seating solution ideal for most corporate settings and domestic environments.

Layout Armchair 244 / Designer

French designer Julien Renault grew up near Paris before studying industrial design in ESAD Design & Art School in Reims, France, and ECAL in Switzerland. These two different educations have helped to form his approach to his work – a combination of objective and rational methods with artistic and personal freedom. Currently based from his studio in Brussels, Julien’s ability to find inspiration everywhere means he is not afraid to beautify the ordinary. Convinced that all objects have a subconscious effect on our daily lives, Julien manifests the interconnection between objects and their surroundings in his designs, which he creates for a number of international brands. For HAY, Julien has designed the Pastis Table and Chair series, the Layout Chair series, the Compass Lamp Collection, and the Deville Collection.
